The Power of Student Reflection: Digital End of the Year Activities

Graphic with Arrows displaying the text Thinking Back Looking Forward

Reflecting and synthesizing are important parts of the learning process for all learners and the end of the school year is a great time to have your students utilize these skills by reflecting on the past year. Students can reflect on the events of the school year, the ways they have grown, their current favorites, and set some goals for next year. Teachers can also use this as an opportunity to get student feedback on their class as well! Read on to learn about some of my favorite technology-infused ways to wrap up the school year.

Flipgrid

Video reflection is a powerful tool and Flipgrid makes that task easy for anyone. Come up with a question stem of your own or use one from the list below to create a Flipgrid Topic for your students to respond to and you will be sure to enjoy the videos your students create!

**BONUS POINTS if you can compile all of your individual student responses into a class Mixtape to show to your class and/or share with your learning community! 😊

Google for Education

Google Slides and Jamboard are two Google tools that work perfectly for capturing the power of student reflection. You can create and share a template for your students to complete or you can give them a list of questions to respond to and give them creative freedom to respond with the media of their choice. The options for implementing this with your class are endless!

Read through and click on the information below to get some inspiration and feel free to share your final products with your Digital Learning Coach. We love to see the awesome things you do!

Ideas for implementation:

Have your students create a digital end of year memory book or a brochure for next year's class with Google Slides or Jamboard using one of the ready-made templates below. It is super easy to assign to each student or compile a class book using Google Classroom!

Reflection Question Ideas:

Seesaw

Students with access to Seesaw can use the drawing tool to create animations that will help them review and reflect on their school year while building their organization and storyboarding skills by sketching out a year-long learning journey of their favorite memories. Take a look at the embedded YouTube video below to see how easy it is to animate in Seesaw. Using this example, you can create your own activity or check out this helpful query from the Seesaw Library for some good premade end of the year reflection activities that you can adapt to fit your needs. Your campus DLC is available to lend a hand as you implement this so please reach out to them if you would like to give this a try with your students!

**NOTE: One of the tools mentioned in the video above is remove.bg. It is my #1 go to website for removing a background from an object or person in a photo that is definitely worth checking out!

If you are looking to stretch yourself with the ultimate fun and creative end of the year project for your students, give Adobe Creative Cloud Express (formerly known as Adobe Spark) or iMovie a try to create animated movies like a pro! Challenge your students to create a short video about what they have learned this year by using images of their favorite projects and by adding text and/or voice with details. Reach out to your campus DLC and ask them to partner with you on this because two sets of hands are always better than one and we are happy to help!!

Here are some tutorials about these two options that you may find helpful.
